A Poem by Favour Ndinyo
They told me education is the key to success,
that it was the only way I could progress,
Now my questions are endless,
About this promise, I had learnt to embrace.
They told me education would open doors,
that with a degree, I would get everything my heart adores,
And all my interactions would be of praise and applause,
My reality, however, is filled with unending woes.
“They” are on strike,
from my academic year, they snuffed out all the psyche,
I hadn’t even decided what units I like,
And now my anxiety is on a steady spike.
As my academic future hangs in the balance,
and I run short of time and finance,
One question bothers my mind trance,
Does education really secure abundance?
